Best Friends Quilt

Hi, Janet here. Thought it was about time I introduced myself.  I mostly work at our Deloraine store, Fresh Fabric, and from time to time take the trip to Latrobe to work a day or two at Picture Patchwork.

I wasn't sure what to share with you for my first entry, but Jennie suggested our "Best Friends" quilt, which we put together just in time to take to the Melbourne Craft and Quilt fair in 2011. The pattern is by the very clever Clare Horsman from Clares Place. (You can read all about Clare in the latest Australian Homespun magazine, or go to her website http://www.claresplace.com.au/), and the fabric range is "Happier" by Riley Blake Designs.

The centre panel of the quilt is and stitched in perle no. 5 thread, the owl appliques can be hand or machine stitched, and the rest of the quilt was machine sewn.  We also used a quilt-as-you-go technique to finish the quilt.

We have patterns available for $14.95 and kits for $125, which include the pattern and all the fabric for the quilt top and binding.

I would just like to add that I love this quilt.  It was so satisfying to make, perhaps because with tuition from Selina I discovered the joy of quilt as you go, and at the completion of each step i was so pleased with the results, and the end result was better than i could have hoped for.
Until next time, happy sewing. Janet.

Birdie Pillow

P1020527
Hi there, I’ve just made up a sample for Picture Patchwork & it was sooo easy & fun that I had to let you know about it!!!
We have a beautiful range of fabric just in at Picture Patchwork called Make Do and Mend by Michele D’Amore & seeing as birds seem to be very “in” at the moment & we have the ‘Hello Birdie” pillow pattern in store  by The Red Thread, I thought I would combine the two. (Actually Elaine thought it would be a good idea too!) By the way I have always loved birds so am very happy about birds being popular!
AS I said it was very easy to whip up, a perfect project for someone who is just starting out sewing, or an item that could easily be be sewn by hand or machine,up to you really.
Great little project if you are travelling around in 1 of the many motor homes we get through our towns, sitting out under the annexe wiling away the evening with a glass of red or white in your hand.
The girls at Fresh , (Janet & Zenette) have already made 3 up that are roosting on their shelves so they will know what I am on about. If you want to pop in & check them out they would be only to happy to help you out.
The finished pillow is approx 40cms x 45cms, & a few would look great on shelves or a couch.I sewed my bird all by machine including the blanket stitch around the appliqué pieces. Patterns are available for $14.95, or we could make you a kit for $25.00. The fabric range is $22.00 p/m

The Make DO & Mend range of fabric comes in pretty soft tones of pink, green, burgundy, brown, caramel & blue & in several different designs over the range. This is a lovely range with a touch of old world charm. A couple of the designs have sewing notions on them & would look great on a canvas on a wall in a sewing room!!
Happy sewing, Jen
